Support the New Moon Mycology Summit

As the organizing body of the Mycelium Underground, we are requesting for your financial support for our event, the New Moon Mycology Summit (NMMS). The NMMS is much more than the Mycelium Underground, it is an ecosystem that exists because of every participant. As the collective behind the organizing, we are fueled by passion for alternative spaces within mycology, ecological + societal justice and education. We gather and make space because we feel like we have nowhere else to experience what we are curating, held with respect and care for the land, stewards and everyone involved.  It truly is a living organism. We need this space and this work to continue so we can bring voices together and keep learning from each other. We need to gather more, we need to exchange more, we need to network and build strong communities so we can care for one another. Can you contribute to help this event continue to happen?

Each time we have organized the New Moon Mycology Summit and other single-day Mycelial Gatherings in Philadelphia, PA + Richmond, VA, we have operated solely using funds from registrations—which are and will always be on a pay what you can, sliding scale, no one turned away for lack of funds basis. The events leading up to this year’s Summit were all supported this way. In our events we feed everyone home-cooked meals by a kitchen crew, Seeds of Peace, who we share door proceeds with. When Seeds of Peace aren’t with us during our event, they feed Earth defenders and Water protectors and support folks on the frontlines of some of the most imminent ecological crises throughout the continent.

This year, the NMMS returned after a 4-year break during the pandemic. We were in Vermont for the first time, hosted by an incredible collective at the non-profit Wheelock Mountain Farm in the town of Greensboro Bend. It was one of our richest events with 40+ workshops, panels and screenings, an Offers and Needs Market, acupuncture by Monarda Community Care, an intentional space for BIPOC called In Living Color, a makeshift cultivation lab, and more.

As a young organization, thus far we have not received grants or external institutional funding, and have run our events purely on people’s contributions at the door. Our organizing is completely volunteer-based, and organizers contributed an immense amount of work over the span of 10 months to put together this year’s event. Due to lower-than-anticipated registration numbers, harsh weather, and other unexpected hurdles, the NMMS was not able to break even to cover our expenses, including compensating presenters for their contributions. Tragically, while this year’s NMMS was highly successful otherwise, leaving participants nourished and connected in many different and new ways, the burden of this financial situation continues to present organizers with hardships both in their personal lives and with respect to future events. This is why we need your support.

In supporting us with a tax deductible donation, you will be supporting us in future endeavors of NMMS.

Please consider donating to help keep the New Moon Mycology Summit a possibility!

THANKS! <3
